I can hardly believe it’s 2016 !! Crazy right ?!?
I hope you had a wonderful 2015!
So first things first. Are you a resolution maker ?!? I typically go hog-wild every year just after Christmas cleaning all of the debris of wrapping paper, organizing all that’s been bugging me, purging stuff, donating clothing, toys, etc. This year has been no exception. Even my husband Michael has been completely unleashed! Just the other day he filled over 4 BIG bags of clothes for donation and I was SO inspired and impressed. It’s infectious you know. I know it’s not always easy letting stuff go, but let’s be honest, it feels SO good !!
So I’m not a strict resolution person. I do however, focus on positive change each year. I actually try and live by my own positive mantra all year. For example…. (1) Mondays are an exciting new beginning. I tell this to myself and to my kids each week because honestly, who really truly likes Mondays? (2) There is always a silver-lining and/or a lesson to be learned from every experience. Yes, sometimes you have to look really, really hard to find it, but trust me, it’s there. (3) S M I L E. At yourself, in the mirror, at a stranger in line at Walmart, to the shy kid at school. It’s such a small gesture, but could mean the world to someone who may need a little happiness. (4) Stay positive! Be the glass-half-full-kind-of-person and let the negative stuff go. Sometimes this is very hard to do, but in the end who is it helping ?? Um, no one. Who is it hurting ?? Um, yourself, and only YOU can change YOU! (5) Be grateful and thankful. Give thanks to God, for every blessing you have, every. single. day.
So 2016 will be no different, and hopefully there will be even more positive changes!
For example, things that make our lives at home easier. Silly things like putting folded laundry away the day it’s washed, matching socks and actually putting them away, cleaning out the fridge, organizing the panty, etc.
I also want to continue to grow as a person. No, not in height (wouldn’t that be nice!), or in width (geez, I hope not ! ). I’m talking about spiritually, emotionally, physically.
To learn, experience and do things I may have otherwise been reluctant to do. How else does a person grow?!? I also want to change bad habits, and also continue to live an even cleaner, more healthy lifestyle.
2015 came with many achievements for our family.
Our oldest child Michael graduated from High School and started his first year at College. Earlier in 2015, he also earned Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts which is a HUGE accomplishment! If you are a Mom of a graduate, you understand the excitement, the scary feelings of letting go and of course the joyful tears. Wow, what a roller coaster ride it’s been but it’s all good…all good. I couldn’t be more proud of the young man he has become.
Our middle child and oldest daughter Elle, 12, started 7th grade. She is a great student and is so responsible with her schoolwork. Elle also took first place as the fastest girl in the 7th grade mile-run at her school ! She’s fast and she actually LOVES to run. Go figure! Elle also grew as an amazingly talented young artist and entered her first art show. I mean, look at this talent, she’s good!!….
Our youngest girl Myah, 11, started the 5th grade at a brand new school. She was excited for this new adventure but sad to leave her old friends. Everyone who meets Myah just loves her so needless to say, she’s made some very nice new friends and is doing great. She joined 4H which has taught her to care for and to also ride horses! Myah has also found her niche, as she taught herself how to play the Ukulele and even made it into her schools talent show! She and her talented friend performed live just before Christmas and they were SO awesome!
My heart bursts with so much love and pride for these kids.
I think they’re pretty amazing human beings, and honestly, all three are blessed with the innate virtues of compassion, love, goodness and gratitude to say a few. Yes, they are mine, which may make me sound biased, but truth be told, they are wonderful people.
2015 also came with some positive-growth for myself, which also includes learning to play the Ukulele ! I’ve always loved music so being able to actually play an instrument to represent a song has been pretty cool ! I’ve even become more comfortable singing in front of people, something I NEVER thought I would do. I have to be honest, I’m not a good singer but really, who cares ?!? It’s about expression and having fun and using your mind to learn new things. Trust me, when you mix a fire pit, friends and someone playing music, everyone happily joins in !
I’ve recently became an official certified Les Mills Body Flow Instructor! I’ve loved Yoga and Body Flow for several years. Body Flow is a mix of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates and I just LOVE it all! I was beyond thrilled to receive my certification just a couple of days before Christmas. I’ve been team teaching since October and recently I’ve been solo teaching my own classes. As intimidating as it can be (oh, and it certainly can be), it gets easier and more enjoyable every time. I have to admit that I’m pretty proud of myself. I questioned whether I would be able to do this. To get beyond my fears and insecurities, get up and lead a class. Well, I have and it feels great! The positive, kind words and support I have received at my gym has been amazing too!
Last but certainly not least, my husband Michael started a new job in 2015 as the Vice President of Sales for a successful medical company and is enjoying his new venture. Michael is also learning an instrument, the guitar. And, just a few short days ago he turned the big 5-0 ! You would never guess right ?!?
He’s pretty darn HOT.
Oops, I meant he is so LOVED. Cuz he really, really is.
So 2015 has been filled with lots of blessings and exciting adventures. I am certain 2016 will bring many more. Especially with an open mind, a joyful heart and an abundance of gratitude.
Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy, happy, positive and blessed 2016.
